Purpose and steps

Work Days Calculator validates start date, end date, include the end date, excluded holidays (yyyy-mm-dd, comma separated) before applying the displayed equation. End must be on or after start; an equal pair yields zero unless the end is included.

  1. Count dates using calendar days rather than local-clock elapsed hours. The start date is included in work-day enumeration and the end is excluded unless the inclusive option is checked.
  2. Enter Start date, End date, Include the end date, Excluded holidays (YYYY-MM-DD, comma separated) in the stated format. Baseline values are for reproduction.
  3. Check the output unit and convention: Read work days (monday–friday) with its stated unit and convention. The default example and the independent worked scenario use different inputs, so compare the assumptions before comparing the numbers.
  4. Change one input and compare the result. End must be on or after start; an equal pair yields zero unless the end is included. Work days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and supplied holidays only; local public holidays are not fetched automatically. Calendar-date inputs and calculated calendar dates must stay within years 0001–9999.

Parameters used by this calculator
ParameterDemonstration valueHow to enter it
Start date2026-01-01 A real Gregorian date in years 0001–9999; calculations use UTC calendar dates.
End date2026-01-31 A real Gregorian date in years 0001–9999; calculations use UTC calendar dates.
Include the end datefalse Checked includes the end date; unchecked excludes it.
Excluded holidays (YYYY-MM-DD, comma separated) List real YYYY-MM-DD dates separated by commas or newlines; blank means no extra holidays.

Model-specific method

How this calculator produces its result

Work Days Calculator: work days = count(Monday–Friday dates not in the supplied holiday set). Input definitions: start = Start date; end = End date; inclusive = Include the end date; holidays = Excluded holidays (YYYY-MM-DD, comma separated). Use the selected convention throughout the calculation.

Work Days Calculator: calendar conventions

Count dates using calendar days rather than local-clock elapsed hours. The start date is included in work-day enumeration and the end is excluded unless the inclusive option is checked. End must be on or after start; an equal pair yields zero unless the end is included. Work days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and supplied holidays only; local public holidays are not fetched automatically. Calendar-date inputs and calculated calendar dates must stay within years 0001–9999.

Count eligible dates, not total days minus a rough weekend estimate. January 5–12, 2026 with the end excluded contains five Monday–Friday dates. Excluding January 5 as a supplied holiday leaves four. Duplicate holiday entries are removed and weekend holidays do not subtract an extra weekday. Local holidays or substitute days must be entered explicitly.

work days = count(Monday–Friday dates not in the supplied holiday set)
  • start: Start date. A real Gregorian date in years 0001–9999; calculations use UTC calendar dates.
  • end: End date. A real Gregorian date in years 0001–9999; calculations use UTC calendar dates.
  • inclusive: Include the end date. Checked includes the end date; unchecked excludes it.
  • holidays: Excluded holidays (YYYY-MM-DD, comma separated). List real YYYY-MM-DD dates separated by commas or newlines; blank means no extra holidays.
  • Result units: stated beside each output
  • Calculation relationship: work days = count(Monday–Friday dates not in the supplied holiday set)

Worked example

Work Days Calculator baseline input: Start date: 2026-01-01; End date: 2026-01-31; Include the end date: not selected; Excluded holidays (YYYY-MM-DD, comma separated): . Output: Work days (Monday–Friday) = 22 days. Substitute these values into the displayed equation to reproduce the result.

Reproduce the default scenario

This reproduces the default inputs in the reference table above; it is not an additional independent example. Displayed rounding may differ from intermediate precision.

Work days (Monday–Friday)
22 days

Reading results without overstating them

  • Read work days (monday–friday) with its stated unit and convention. The default example and the independent worked scenario use different inputs, so compare the assumptions before comparing the numbers.
  • Change one input at a time and use the equation to explain the result; do not mix unit, grade-scale, time-zone or rounding conventions across comparisons.

Assumptions and exclusions

  • End must be on or after start; an equal pair yields zero unless the end is included.
  • Work days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and supplied holidays only; local public holidays are not fetched automatically.
  • Calendar-date inputs and calculated calendar dates must stay within years 0001–9999.
