Two-column rows are for total-points mode; weighted rows require three columns.
Calculation notes
Understand the Assignment Grade Calculator
Assignment Grade Calculator validates method, rows: earned, possible [weight % for weighted mode] before applying the displayed equation. Two-column rows are for total-points mode; weighted rows require three columns.
Formula and logic
What is the formula for the Assignment Grade Calculator?
Assignment Grade Calculator: points grade = Σearned / Σpossible × 100; weighted grade = Σ(earned/possible × weight) / Σweight × 100. Input definitions: mode = Method; rows = Rows: earned, possible [weight % for weighted mode]. Use the selected convention throughout the calculation.
Worked example
How can I reproduce the Assignment Grade Calculator example?
Assignment Grade Calculator baseline input: Method: Total points; Rows: earned, possible [weight % for weighted mode]: 18 20 / 45 50. Output: Grade = 90 %; Points earned = 63; Points possible = 70. Substitute these values into the displayed equation to reproduce the result.
How to read the result
How should I interpret the Assignment Grade Calculator result?
Read grade with its stated unit and convention. The default example and the independent worked scenario use different inputs, so compare the assumptions before comparing the numbers.
Change one input at a time and use the equation to explain the result; do not mix unit, grade-scale, time-zone or rounding conventions across comparisons.
Limits and assumptions
What limits apply to the Assignment Grade Calculator?
Two-column rows are for total-points mode; weighted rows require three columns.
Extra-credit points above the stated possible total are not accepted in this version.
Combine assignment scores using total earned points divided by total possible points or explicit normalized weights. Each possible-point total must be positive.
Enter Method, Rows: earned, possible [weight % for weighted mode] in the stated format. Baseline values are for reproduction.
Check the output unit and convention: Read grade with its stated unit and convention. The default example and the independent worked scenario use different inputs, so compare the assumptions before comparing the numbers.
Change one input and compare the result. Two-column rows are for total-points mode; weighted rows require three columns. Extra-credit points above the stated possible total are not accepted in this version.
Weighted rows contain earned points, possible points and a weight. A 9/10 assignment weighted 20 and a 35/50 assignment weighted 80 give 90×0.2 + 70×0.8 = 74%. In total-points mode the same scores give 44/60 instead. Switching methods changes the denominator and the required number of columns; neither method is universally the school’s rule.
